Answer:

September-
  • Pick about five schools and begin to research them if you haven’t done so yet
  • Register for the SAT 1 and/or ACT
  • Write admission offices at the five colleges to find out admission criteria and deadlines. Ask for an application for admission
  • October-

  • Work on applications. Are essays required? If so, get ideas together and start writing.
  • Study for the ACT/SAT 1
  • Start doing research on local scholarships and other financial opportunities.
  • Find out who gives out scholarships in your community and what is required
  • November & December-

  • Talk to people at your school and in your local community who will write you a recommendation.
  • Deadline for scholarships at most colleges and universities is November 15.
  • Get a copy of an old FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) from your high school counselor, and get together with your parents to prepare the data needed.

    January-

  • Get all of your family financial information together to send in to colleges.
  • Be patient. Answers from admission offices generally don’t arrive until late February or early March.
  • Narrow your college choices down to two.
  • Pick up a new FAFSA. Fill it out and send it in ASAP
  • February-

  • FAFSA reports should be arriving soon. Check for any mistakes.
  • Take or send FAFSA reports to financial aid offices once they are correct.
  • March-

  • You will begin to receive admission notices saying if you are accepted or not. Do not give up.
  • Make a decision of where you want to go. Base your decision on your personal opinions, not those of your friends or family.
  • April-

  • Send in your housing fee, if any.
  • Find out if the school needs any additional information and supply that.
  • May & June-

  • Open a checking and savings account.
  • Get used to budgeting yourself.
  • Enjoy the end of high school and graduation!!!!!!!!!!!
  • July-

  • Start shopping for school clothes and supplies. Remember to think about the climate where you are headed.
  • Try to find out who your roommate is and get in touch with them.
  •   August-

  • Finish all commitments at home and work.
  • Say your good-byes and collect addresses.
